Our Programs
Functional Academics
Functional academics teach our students real life skills which take place at both our Day Habilitation Center as well as out in the community. The skills help promote independence and success which are used to assist skill development.
Daily Living Skills
These are self care activities that work on communication, hygiene, grooming, appropriate dress, meal preparation, and safety. Skills are catered to the individual needs of each of our students.
Social Skills
Social skills help teach the necessary skills to get along with others in order to relate appropriately with others. These skills can be verbal and nonverbal. Social skills are important in order to have positive interactions with other individuals.
Life Skills
Life skills are the skills needed in order to cope effectively with situations that occur in our everyday life. We work on these skills daily. Some of the basic life skills that we work on are cooking skills, housekeeping skills, calendar skills, effective communication, basic technology skills, safety skills, and money management.
Vocational Job Training
Our students work on vocational/pre-vocational skills both at our center as well as out in the community. High Rise has an on-site T-Shirt business where students learn how to use the vinyl press, heat press, and design shirts with their creative art work. We provide our students with real world, hands-on job skill training through an opportunity to explore different career paths.
Art Therapy
Art therapy is always a big favorite at the center. Art therapy provides the students a creative outlet to express their feelings. It also provides for a sense of pride and ownership of their finished project. Additionally, their finished project can be used as a gift for a friend or loved one.
Music Therapy
Music therapy has many positive benefits. When singing or playing musical instruments, this will help with the active part of the brain. Whereas, when listening or dancing to music, helps with the receptive part of the brain. Music can help reduce stress, help with self esteem, help with verbal communication, behaviors and also with coping skills.
Community Outings
Going out into the community is an important part of our day habilitation center. Community outings are a great way to explore different businesses, restaurants, libraries, museums, and places of recreation. Community outings are incorporated into our curriculum several times a week. It is such a great way to work on social skills and appropriate behavior in different types of settings.
Sensory Integration
Sensory integration is the technique through how we sense what is around us in this world. We use our senses to help understand information so that we can process our surroundings and appropriately respond. Sensory processing can affect our communication, our surroundings, and how we function in our daily lives.
